Unreleased Songs

I've been lucky enough to get a hold of most of the obscure tracks in Jeff's catalogue. There are still a few that never seem to surface. In both a documentary and an interview, Michael Tighe has been quoted saying that he felt the song "Sky Blue Skin" was very important and that the fans should hear it. This song and many others remain lost Sky Blue Skin was finally released on August 23, 2019. These lost songs are most likely locked up in the Sony vaults where we may or may not ever hear them. Luckily, every so often one will surface and I'll note it here with an orange asterisk next to the title. You can hear most of the marked tracks via MojoRadio.

All Flowers In Time Bend Toward The Sun (J. Buckley)

All Flowers In Time was co-written by Jeff and Liz Frazer. They recorded it as a duet and the tape was in Jeff's private collection. Quoting Mary Guibert: "I have a very tender regard for Miss Frazer, and I have no intention of releasing that recording. However, Jeff does sing a verse or two in a medley during one of the live concerts." A fan donated this track to the site on 07/21/2006.

my eyes are
a baptism
oh i am filth
and sing her
into my thoughts
oh phantom elusive thing oh,

all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one,
all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one, here is one... here is one

aah, ooh...
one that can never be known
either all drunk with the world at her feet
or sober with no place to go

all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one,
all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one, here is one... here is one

aah, ooh...
we could go (......)
we can travel round
fading farther from me
with your face in my window call

when will you weep for me
sweet willow

it's ok to be angry
but not to hurt me
your happiness, yes, yes, yes
darling, darling,
oooh...

all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one,
all flowers in time bend towards the sun
i know you say that there's no-one for you
but here is one, here is one... here is one

Dendrils of Death (J. Buckley)

There is currently no information about this song available. It is most likely lost somewhere in the Sony vaults. :(

Untitled Track (J. Buckley)

This is a beautiful take of a song done in a studio. It has titled "The Man I Am" by a few fans for identification purposes, but the original title is still unknown, so it could very well be one of these other tracks listed here.

Don't Listen To Anyone But Me (J. Buckley)

There is currently no information about this song available. It is most likely lost somewhere in the Sony vaults. :(

Edna Frau (M. Grondahl)

Edna Frau is a Mick Grondahl composition. It's a song Jeff added to the concert repertoire as a gesture of encouragement to the band to explore their own writing skills.

to cross the ocean and to look down
this pipe (?) love is rushing to a city(?) bed
then wires (?) stream into an open (....)
take hold of Jude, she's coming down

i made like i didn't tell you
don't tell it

when will you wash the bodies
two seven numbers (?) with the happy (....)
take a leave and join me on the water's (?) edge
i let you (......) i could assist your death

i made like i didn't tell you
when they call me
i made like i didn't tell you
when they call me

but cry, oh, your life
don't go blind (?)
cry... go blind (?)
to get out

now my sister, you didn't know how
everyone needs (..............)
all my children are acting out
crawling to bed with Edna Frau

Forget Her (J. Buckley)

A previously unreleased recording (Now included on the Grace :: Legacy Edition), originally recorded and mixed by Andy Wallace and Jeff Buckley for the first album, but replaced with 'So Real.'

while the city's busy sleeping
all your troubles lie awake
i walk the streets to stop my weeping
but she'll never change her ways

don't fool yourself
she was heartache from the moment that you met her
my heart feels so still
as i try to find the will to forget her somehow
oh i think i've forgotten her now

her love is a rose dead and dying
dropping her petals and man i know
all full of wine the world before her
but sober with no place to go

don't fool yourself
she was heartache from the moment that you met her
my heart is frozen still
as i try to find the will to forget her somehow
she's somewhere out there now

oh my tears fall down as i tried to forget
the love was a joke from the day that we met
all of the words all of her men
all of my pain when i think back to when
remember her hair as it shone in the sun
it was there on the bed when i knew what she'd done
tell yourself over and over you wont ever need her again

don't fool yourself
she was heartache from the moment that you met her
oh my heart is frozen still
as i try to find the will to forget her somehow
she's out there somewhere now

oh
she was heartache from the day that i first met her
my heart is frozen still
as i try to find the will to forget you somehow
cause i know you're somewhere out there right now

Let's Bomb The Moonlight (J. Buckley)

so well
the world is diagnosed with terminal cancer
flesh is not human this culture is not freedom
and the world has terminal cancer
i want to live with you

let's bomb the moonlight and dance

this far awake is a joke our love is real
and the world is diagnosed with terminal cancer
i love your lips ...(?)...

armageddon's just another job, it's all on the inside
don't let them tell you love is a lie
love is so real
the best bet's to stay alive

let's go bomb the moonlight
let's take it back
what was ours by right
frame of a picture, the subject's not right

oh people of the world
you have a new boy in town
to share the light with a guillotine
that's realer than all of you
that's love human.

we'll bomb the moonlight and dance
dance

sweet black mother of death
why did you have to take her away from me?
it's stupid all the words fit together
where now is nothing
why did you have to bring us together,
under such dirty circumstance?
i have a molotov
let's bomb the moonlight and dance
dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance

This song was acquired on 03/20/2006 among a few others. I will try and get the lyrics up soon. It can be heard on MojoRadio.

Sky Blue Skin (J. Buckley - Demo - September 13, 1996)

This song was finally released on August 23, 2019 as part of Jeff Buckley 25 Years of Grace. Back around 2005 I posted the following text here about this song:

Sky Blue Skin is an unfinished song. Mary Guibert (Jeff's Mother) has two demo takes of it, but nothing with lyrics. Michael Tighe was quoted in a documentary saying: "I think this is the most important out of all the other unreleased songs. I think it really has something to say." Hopefully we will see its release at some point in the future.

And what I had wrote about at the top of this page about some of these "unreleased" songs possibly being one of the unidentified songs in the collection has proven to be true. Sky Blue Skin is identical to the recording I had acquired on 03/20/2006 titled Untitled (The Man I Am) which could be played on MojoRadio so many years ago; before the Jeff Buckley Estate asked me to remove the tracks (probably to thwart circulation of this song!). I can't remember where I read about Mary having "two demo takes of it, but nothing with lyrics," perhaps another documentary, but that was probably nonsense to cover up the fact that the song was indeed out there. Also, it's interesting that Michael Tighe was not aware that this was the same song, but he could have been ordered not to speak about it. Well, I'm glad to finally put to rest the mystery surrounding this song and you can you can listen to both versions below.

Strawberry Street (J. Buckley)

This song and the lone instrument mix were on Jeff's very first demo tape The Babylon Dungeon Demos. 'Strawberry Street' - previously unreleased, originally written in 1988, and appears here in a rehearsal recording from The Knitting Factory, NY, in May of 1993, with an early try-out combo of bassist Tom Goodkind (of The Washington Squares) and drummer John McNally. This song is included on the release Grace: 10th Anniversary Legacy Edition.

Unforgiven (J. Buckley)

This song which is from the Babylon Dungeon Demos demo tape is the first incarnations of Last Goodbye. The instruments, lyrics and vocal melody of the song are a little different.
